There are affordable ways to expand your wardrobe that can help you get more out of what you already have without breaking the bank. Most of the people are continuously trying to expand their wardrobe in order to look their best. The majority of them also spent a lot of money.

Clothing is one of the categories that should definitely go into our budgets. Experts are saying we should budget 5% of our paycheck for apparel. I know for sure I for one will not spend that much on clothing each month. Just want to clarify that this 5% is suggested for those that have no debt.

What should you do if you have a small budget for your wardrobe but still want to look amazing?

If you want to improve your look without spending a lot of money I have 12 affordable ways to expand your wardrobe.

1.Proper fit

If you want to always look put together you need to make sure your clothing fits you properly. Pull everything out and try everything, if they fit, keep them if not set them aside.

Throw away the items that have no chance of getting saved. Donate or find a way to alter the ones that are a bit too large or too small. Also, you could find a totally different use for those items. For example, use a sweater that it’s too small to make a pillowcase or some mittens.

2.Mix and Mach

There are no other more affordable ways to expand your wardrobe than using what you already have.

Whenever we buy a new item we find a way or two to wear it. We end up always wearing the same combinations.

While you have all your clothing pulled out of your closet find new ways to mix and match them. It might seem a tough job but it doesn’t have to be.

Lay your favorite pair of pants on the bed and pair them with all your tops one by one.  Once you found a new top for your pants find a new pair of shoes and add a new blazer to get even more combinations.

Whenever you find a new combination that you like take a picture of it. The pictures will help you remember all the combination you liked. They will make your life easier in the morning when you try to get ready for work. Keep them on your phone and just browse thru them in the morning.

3.Organize better

Now it’s time to put your clothes back in the closet. But before you do that figure out the best way to organize them. Organize them by season, and the rest according to the occasion you wear them.

If you want to kick it up a notch leave a small portion of your closet empty. Use this side of your closet for outfits you plan to wear next week.  Pull out your phone and decide what new outfits you want to wear for the next few days.

7.Revamp your clothing

With some practice and a little bit of creativity, you can completely transform old boring items. Take your outdated jeans and transform them into a one of a kind pair of jeans. When it comes to revamping your clothing the sky is the limit.

Keep your wardrobe mostly in neutral colors and keep just a few bright colors or bold prints. Neutral colors go with almost anything and are easier to mix and match. This way you won’t have to go buy some bottoms that go with a top with an intricate and bold pattern.

A neutral outfit will always make you look more elegant and chic without having to spend lots of money.

9.Wear items outside of the season

You don’t have to stash away your sundress as soon as the summer is gone.  Put on a jacket, tights and this way you can get more out of your dress.

10.Layer!

Learn how to layer your clothing so you get even more outfits. Use as your first layer something fit, it helps you look slimmer. If the weather is colder than your first layer will not show up to much from underneath the other layers. Tops, blazers, cardigans, and coats can be used as the middle and outer layers.

11.Invest in timeless pieces

Invest in timeless quality pieces like coats, blazers, and purses. Think of clothing that you wear a lot and invest in them. Around 10 years ago I invested a little bit more in a coat. Ever since I wore it every spring and autumn and the coat is still going strong. Even though I bought my coat 10 years ago I still get compliments on how nice the coat is.

When buying a better quality item like this choose neutral colors and timeless style.

12.Hairstyle and makeup

The same outfit can look completely different if you wear your hair slick straight, a hot mess of curls or even change your haircut. The same as with the accessories your hairstyle and makeup can spice up your outfit.
